Pachacamac Archaeological Site
Begin the tour in Barranco, Lima’s most bohemian suburb. We will see Barranco’s Central Park, the Municipal Library, the traditional Bridge of Sighs, the colonial homes, and its famous boulevard. Next, we will drive down the South Pacific Coast Highway to Pachacamac, the most important ceremonial center on the Peruvian coast during pre-Inca and Inca times. Throughout the centuries, Pachacamac was occupied by many different Andean civilizations such as the Lima’s, the Wari, the Ichma’s, and finally by the Inca Empire. However, the Pachacamac Oracle always remained a religious center. We will see several pyramidal temples and enclosures from different periods: the Adobitos & Old Temple (I C. A.D.), the painted Temple (VIII C. A.D.), a pyramid with a ramp (XIII C. A.D) & the Temple of the Sun (XV C. A.D.). Besides the ruins, we will also visit an on-site museum displaying pottery, textiles, shell and stone ornaments, as well as the wooden Pachacamac idol found during excavations (1938)
Palomino Islands Wildlife Cruise
Embark on a thrilling boat tour to the Palomino Islands, home to diverse marine life, including sea lions and seabirds. Palomino Islands is one of the most excellent side excursions you can take while in Lima. Featured as an alternative to the Ballestas Islands for those who are unable to go to Paracas (a roundtrip of seven hours from Lima), Islas Palomino is just an hour on board a yacht from the historical port of Callao, which in its turn is just half an hour from the center.
The tour takes 4 hours, and you will also get to know San Lorenzo Island, El Fronton Island, and the Cavinzas Islands. Catch a glimpse of the sea lions of the cold Peruvian sea, the fantastic Humboldt penguins (similar in looks and size to the Magellanic penguins), and many other seabird species. Have a bit of an adventure by swimming and splashing alongside these young and playful sea creatures. The Palomino Islands are an excellent side trip for those looking to escape city life and inhale the salty smells of the bay.
