April Festivals in Lima


Semana Santa:
(April 8 th -9 th. This is a holiday that is recognized by the whole country. During this week it is prohibited to eat red meat for Catholics and many firm believes choose to follow many convictions regarding their faith. Many people travel during this long weekend, and you will find that transportation cost can rise up to 50%.
Seller’s day:April 29 th
This is the competition the national horse of Peru, the Caballo de Paso. The Chalanes (riders) wear white ponchos and pants along with the traditional chalán hat. There are eliminatory, semifinals and final rounds, and you can usually find typical food from the Peruvian coast, wines and pisco. During the finals there is much Marinera Norteña, a traditional Peruvian dance, accompanied with Peruvian music from the north coast. The competition takes place at Pachacamac, and the event days are varied. Look for advertisements during this time.
